DeMarcus Cousins finally made his highly anticipated debut in a Golden State Warriors uniform last night. Cousins debut completed the Avengers of NBA starting fives as the Warriors are now officially starting 5 NBA All-Stars in the PRIME of their careers. And while Cousin’s team debut was brief (15 minutes of play), he showed great efficiency on the floor (3 for 4 from downtown) and some explosive power as seen from this dunk.

There’s no telling how many minutes Cousins would have played had he not fouled out in the ball game, but the game got so out of hand that it likely didn’t matter. Cousins gives the Warriors something that they never had during all three of their championship squads in which two of them featured Kevin Durant. Demarcus Cousins gives this dubs squad a consistent low post scoring threat with an outside shooting game to match. Oh, and did I mention that he is a 6 time NBA all-star as well?
The good news for the rest of the league is that DeMarcus Cousins is only signed to a one-year deal with the team after tearing his Achilles last season with the New Orleans Pelicans and not having a viable market for his services. However, there are reports that Cousins may consider resigning with the team after this season. Oh wait, you thought that was the bad news? The bad news for the rest of the league is that if DeMarcus Cousins goes on to prove throughout the remainder of this season that his Achilles tear is in the rear-view mirror, he may re-up for a long -term extension if fellow All-Star and former league MVP, Kevin Durant depart from the team this summer and Klay Thompson resigns in Golden State this summer as anticipated.
It’s only been one game, but last night proved why all of NBA Twitter went into a frenzy last summer when DeMarcus Cousins officially decided to take his talents to the Bay. How do you defend a team with a dominant low post scoring threat with two of the greatest shooters in NBA history on the perimeter along with a 6’11 sniper and one of the greatest scorers this game has ever seen? Oh, and by the way, Steph and KD both had 28 and 24 points respectively in the 18 point win against the Clippers last night. I’m just saying…..
