After a very chaotic, yet successful year full of exposure, XXXTentacion’s 2017 breakout single, “Look At Me” has officially gone platinum. Earlier this week, the South Florida rapper, XXXTentacion posted a screenshot on his Instagram page showing off his latest accomplishment. The single, which was officially released back on Soundcloud in 2015, has received a RIAA certification.
XXXTentaction initially launched his career on Soundcloud. His die-hard fandom first created through Soundcloud, then grew throughout the years on social media platforms and other music sharing forums. As previously mentioned, the breakout single, “Look At Me” was initially created in 2015 and was remastered in January 2017. Once the song was remastered, it was then relaunched to the public. Within two months, the single debuted at the No. 95 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The song later peaked at the No. 34 spot.
While the rapper had a strong alliance with his fans, XXXTentacion became a topic of conversation across all Hip-Hop boards when Drake was accused of stealing his flow. The Canadian rapper released a clip back in March previewing a new song from his to-be-released album at the time, “More Life”. The track seemed to follow the same cadence as X’s, “Look At Me” track on Drake’s “KMT”. With so much talk and comparisons, XXXTentacion’s exposure became even bigger.
In all, XXXTentacion has had a very crazy year and deserves the recognition for this huge milestone. It was noted he said he’d go in hiding for a little to work on his newest project, “17”, which released Friday, August 25th on Apple Music and all streaming services.
