After years of rumors and controversy, the iconic British rock band released a statement confirming that production for their long-awaited biopic has begun this week in the U.K.
Emmy award winning star of USA Network’s “Mr. Robot”, Rami Malek, is slated to play Queen’s beloved frontman, Freddie Mercury, in “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Principal production will be in full swing in London by mid-September.
Bryan Singer (known for the X-Men films and The Usual Suspects) is set to direct the film with Brian May and Roger Taylor as executive producers. It’s also rumored that Anthony McCarten, known for The Theory of Everything, has written the script.
Originally, the biopic casted famed comedian, Sacha Baron Cohen as Freddie Mercury but because of creative differences with Taylor and May, Cohen dropped out of the project in 2013. Some fans are in disbelief that the production has finally begun because of the previous rollbacks, but Queen’s official website has assured delivery of this well-anticipated story of rock and roll.
