Premiering on Jan. 15 on Netflix is a three-part docu-series on former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez. Netflix announced on Friday releasing a haunting trailer that features one of Hernandez’s phone calls from prison.
Taking a closer look at the trailer, Killer Inside follows Hernandez’s life from his high school days in Connecticut, his successful year in Florida and later being drafted to the New England Patriots playing from 2010- 2012 and making an appearing in Super Bowl XLVI. The docu-series brings in new insight on the former tight end’s life.
According to Dailybeast, Killer Inside is an expansion of the documentary My Perfect World: The Aaron Hernandez Story.
The story of an NFL player that turned into a murderer made headlines nationwide. Being found guilty in 2015 for murdering Odin L. Lloyd, his fiancée sisters’ brother, and later connected to a double murder in 2012, Hernandez was sentenced to life in prison without parole. In 2017, he was found hanging by a bedsheet in prison.

Sports journalist Dan Wetzel and Kevin Armstrong are the executive producers along with Director Geno McDermott. Wetzel and Armstrong had already spent time in Bristol covering the Lloyd trial making the connection with locals who agreed to be interviewed.
McDermott also wants the documentary to bring respect and bring light to the memory of the victims. The film interviews family and friends of Lloyd and shows trial footage of the double-homicide victims’ families.
Aaron Hernandez was the subject of a two-part series on Oxygen called Aaron Hernandez Uncovered that was released in March 2018. The Boston Globe’s Spotlight team also investigated the murder of Odin Lloyd and Hernandez’s life in a six-part podcast called Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc.
