Ahhh.. Don’t you remember the days of wearing tie-dye at the beach! If not, you’re about to see a lot more of it! Top brands such as Chanel, Michael Kors, Lemaire, Vogue, Prada, and more are taking advantage of the playful nature of this pattern. Models such as Bella Hadid and even Janis Joplin have rocked this look. Celebrities such as Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, and Dree Hemingway have also caught onto the trend.
With that being said, tie-dye has taken a modern turn into this century. Most people think about the 70s and Hippie counter-culture when they think of tie-dye. The laid back atmosphere of the pattern transfers into the clothing in a peaceful nature. The tones can transform into an ultra-chic, modern, futuristic look, or it can be worn casually. Tye-dye is versatile and can be worn in various styles!
Designer Sai Ta, who started his label in London, said his collection is a reminder of two feelings: freedom and hope. Tai says that, “The tie-dye process always creates unexpected results and its outcome is always uncertain, which I guess is the mood of the times now. The unknown is more present.”
The pattern also represents individuality and is a nice break from the more monochrome fashion patterns we’ve seen lately. If you want to get the tie-dye style, consider acid wash tones, or pairing the pattern on a vintage T-shirt. It also looks phenomenal with a matching pair of joggers or dressing it down casually with white or black bottoms. If you want a higher-end look go for styling the pattern with a belt, purse, a pair of heels or boots, and a bold lip. Overall, the psychedelic trend is here to stay, and is something you should definitely try this summer.
