Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union have been very embracing to their children and their uniqueness both publicly and privately. Recently, the supportive parents stepped out with their daughter Zaya Wade.
It was announced last month on The Ellen Show that they were proud parents of an LGBTQ+ child. He also explained that his middle child, Zion, now goes by the name Zaya and identifies as a she/her.
Although receiving criticism from Boosie, the trio made a grand entrance to the Truth Awards red carpet in Los Angeles.
According to Essence magazine, Zaya and her parents stepped out in custom Richfresh–a popular suit designer that has curated pieces for celebrities such as Lena Waithe, John Legend and Kirk Franklin. The family coordinated with hints of pink, black-and-white color blocking. However, Zaya stole the show thanks to a green blazer with a pink stripe across her trousers.
On Instagram Gabrielle Union wrote, “We keep moving forward. We keep leading with love, light, and hope for a better more inclusive world. Stay put and stay mad if you want. We keeping it pushing. Always.”
Dwayne also took to Instagram and reintroduced his daughter, “Everyone allow her to re-introduce herself, her name is Zaya Wade! Last night was Zaya’s first red carpet and we couldn’t have been prouder of how she handled the questions that were asked of her. She has emerged as one of the young faces and voices for the LGBTQ+ community.”
It’s great to see a world that is getting more and more inclusive.
