Move over Lady GaGa, looks like you won’t be the only pop star on television. Guess who? Thats right, Rihanna is making her way to television sets worldwide soon! RiRi has been killing the entire game this year! From her extremely successful ANTI album release, endorsement deals with Puma and Dior, massive world tour, and guest roles on other artists’ music, the question seems to be, “What can’t Rihanna do?” Well we can now add television star to the resume. The Caribbean Queen is set to star in the final season of A& E’s eerie, dark, and, spooky “Bates Motel.” According to Huffington Post this will be the star’s “most high-profile foray into acting to date.” The casting was revealed to the world on Friday (Jul 22) in San Diego, at Comic-Con during a panel that consisted of the cast and crew of the uncanny series.
The show’s twitter handle took to twitter to not only announce that the show will end following this upcoming season but it also announced that Rihanna will play the role of Marion Crane. The show’s twitter also posted a video where Rihanna appeared and spoke on the upcoming role.
Apparently, the Barbados Babe has been a fan of the series for a while. For those unaware of the synopsis of the series, Huffington Post says, the series “traces the original story of the murderous motel owner, Norman Bates, (Freddie Highmore) and his mother (Vera Farmiga) before the events of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic 1960s thriller.”
Wondering how Rihanna and “Bates Motel” even crossed paths? According to Variety.com executive producer, Carlton Cruse stated, “I read this article in which she said she was a fan of “Bates Motel. “We asked and she said yes. It was awesome. We’re really excited about it. It really feels very much like the version of the character that is different from the movie.”
Variety also went further in depth on Rihanna’s character, Marion Crane, saying, “In the film “Psycho,” which serves as the loose inspiration for the series, Marion Crane checks into the “Bates Motel,” where she has the misfortune of crossing paths with motel owner Norman Bates. Her shower scene — where she gets stabbed to death — has become one of film’s most iconic scenes. The producers wanted to give a deeper look into Marion Crane and they desired for her to “very much be her own character.” Apparently, Rihanna fit the mold.
This isn’t surprising; as Rihanna stated she wanted do more acting following her role in 2012’s thriller, “Battleship.”
When speaking on her role in an interview , she said, “ I didn’t really know if I would like it, or how I would feel about it, or if I would be any good, but I had a good time; so I want to do more. I definitely want to do more. “
Well Rihanna this is definitely a great step in that direction! We can’t wait to see how you perform as Marion Crane. Be on the lookout for the final season of A&E’s “Bates Motel” when it returns in 2017!
