Nicki Minaj had fans shocked back in September when she took to Twitter to proclaim a retirement. Luckily for her fans, she was not hinting retirement with her music.
During an interview with The Shade Room, Minaj confirmed that she was strictly questioning the music she had already created. She also mentioned that she felt it might have been insensitive to her Barbies who were worried about it.
“When I posted that retirement tweet, I knew that I still had music that I already had recorded that was still going to come out,” Minaj told The Shade Room. “So the retirement was kind of talking about my album, meaning like, ‘Do I want to go back and record my fifth album?'”
According to The Washington Post, The tweet that sparked the conversation was her speaking on retiring and starting a family. It read, “I’ve decided to retire and have my family. I know you guys are happy now.”
Although the tweet sounded like she was done with music, it was simply about letting the old music go while she created something new that reflected her life.
Recently, Minaj announced her marriage to Kenneth Petty on Instagram by sharing with the world matching hats that read “Bride” and “Groom” and mugs to go along with it. The caption also read her new last name and marriage date. She had mentioned in the same interview with The Shade Room that they were planning to be officially married, but most likely not have a full wedding.
“We’ll definitely do the paperwork portion of the marriage, but the actual wedding, I don’t know,” Minaj said. “You know when you’re a little girl and you want this big beautiful wedding, and I used to think I was one of those girls, I always wanted the fairytale. But then the things that used to matter to you don’t matter as much because I remember wanting those things with people, where real love wasn’t there.”
Thankfully, all the Barbz can be at ease and expect to hear from Minaj very soon.
