Filling out an NCAA Tournament bracket is as American as eating Apple Pie. We are in the middle of March Madness and if you are anything like me, you are probably going Mad right now with the amount of “Ls” in your bracket columns. Where did it all go wrong ? Here is our TUC 5 NCAA Tournament Games That Ruined Your Bracket.
5. Round of 64: (7 Seed) Saint Mary’s Defeats (10 Seed) VCU
Yes , Saint Mary’s was the higher seed between the two but VCU’s reputation was higher between the two schools. It wasn’t long ago that VCU were playing in the NCAA Final 4 back in 2011. The VCU Rams proved what some people already knew about College Basketball in their 85-77 defeat at the hands of The Saint Mary’s Gaels. What you do in the previous year, doesn’t guarantee success the following year.
4. Round of 32: (11 Seed) Xavier “Blows Out”(3 Seed) Florida State 91-66
The Xavier Musketeers was the most inconsistent team all year long which is why they entered the tournament as a 11th seed in the field of 64. Not only was Florida State the higher seed but they had the better NBA bound talent on their roster. Freshman forward, Jonathan Isaac is considered to be a potential lottery pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and Sophomore guard, Dwayne Bacon is considered a potential first round pick in the 2017 draft as well. It raises the question, How can a team such as the Florida State Seminoles lose to the Xavier Musketeers when they have two future first round picks on their roster ?
3. Round of 32 (7 Seed) Michigan Rallies to Defeat (2 Seed ) Louisville
We all should of saw this Michigan story coming. First their team plane slides off the runway during a trip to Indianapolis in the Big Ten Tournament on March 8th, The team then had to travel via plane the following morning to make it to their game on time with 3 hours to spare, The team plays it’s Big Ten Tournament game in their practice jerseys and win it nearly a day after being in a plane crash that could of ended their lives, Michigan goes on to win the Big Ten Tournament two days later, and fast forward to this past Sunday, The Michigan Wolverines’ second round 73-69 win over the Louisville Cardinals should not of been a surprise. However, like the numbers guys we are, we all figured that their luck would have to run out sooner or later especially to a number two seed. We were all WRONG !
2. Round of 32: (2 Seed) Duke DESTROYS Numerous Brackets in loss to (7 Seed) South Carolina
Luke Kennard’s (Number 5) hand over his head expression sums up the feelings of all Duke Blue Devils fans around the world. Numerous “Bracketology Experts” picked Duke to win the National Championship this year. Losing in the Round of 32 is embarrassing for a high seeded team but to lose to a team such as the South Carolina Gamecocks, who doesn’t have a Basketball Pedigree is just the icing on the cake.
1.Round of 32: (1 Seed) Villanova Will Not Repeat After Loss to (8 Seed) Wisconsin
Remember when I said “what you do in the previous year, doesn’t guarantee success the following year” ? That would sum up the defending National Champions, The Villanova Wildcats 2017 NCAA Tournament run. The Villanova Wildcats weren’t my pick to repeat but I certainly expected them to make it out of the first week of the tournament. Villanova was the top overall seed in the tournament and they bowed out early in a thrilling 65-62 defeat at the hands of the number 8 seed Wisconsin Badgers.
