Upon visiting New York, many people immediately gravitate to the sights and sounds of Manhattan. Of course, the city has plenty to offer tourist and natives alike, with its nearly endless number of restaurants, clubs, and generally fun attractions. However, not often do you hear about what some of the other boroughs have to offer in amusement and scenery. If you want a true New York sightseeing experience, then you might want to add some of these places in Brooklyn onto your list.
Here are some places to visit in Brooklyn:
Downtown Brooklyn
Downtown Brooklyn is the area around the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridge and consists of various shops and eateries. It’s also home to several other well-known Brooklyn attractions, such as Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Brooklyn Bridge Park (Dumbo), and the Barclays Center.
Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM)
The Brooklyn Academy of Music is a multi-arts center that showcases the work of emerging artists from all over the world, from film, to modern art, to performance art. It’s has programming in theater, dance, music, opera, film, and several other mediums.
Brooklyn Bridge Park/Dumbo
Brooklyn Bridge Park is made up of several piers, each housing different amusements such as a soccer field, basketball courts, playgrounds, and roller skating. This area is a popular spot for barbeques and gatherings, as it has a designated section with tables and grills. And, if you’re looking for a place to stay with a view, a hotel has opened up in the area.
Barclays Center
The Barclays Center would be Brooklyn’s response to Madison Square Garden. Home to the Brooklyn Nets basketball team, the Barclays Center has hosted several artists, shows and concert series over the years since it’s establishing.
Coney Island Beach/Luna Park
Coney Island has been a popular Brooklyn spot for years, due in part to its beach and its amusement park “Astroland,” which has recently been renamed “Luna Park.” The area contains several thrill rides and attractions, including the historic “Cyclone” roller coaster. And, if you’re in the mood for more “adult” fun, the boardwalk has several bars and a small club area with live music and DJing.
Woodland
If you’re looking for a place where you can have a delicious brunch and immediately turn up afterward, then you’ll definitely want to check out Woodland. It’s this cool restaurant that serves unlimited mimosas and has great music playing all throughout the day. And, at night, the place functions as a regular lounge. So, the party never has to end.
Prospect Park
What makes Prospect Park a great place to visit is how big and open it is. There are several paths that you can walk along, and open fields that you can just laze around in. Many people come to Prospect Park to barbeque or have picnics on the grass. There’s also a zoo.
