Babies seem to be popular in pop culture, right now. The internet is well aware of Beyoncé and Jay Z’s new twins, but it looks like it’s time to add another heir to the Kardashian-Yeezy fortune. About four years ago our favorite direction, North West kicked off the start of the Yeezy family and in 2015 Kim and Kanye celebrated the birth of their second child, Saint. But recently this year the Wests have been considering a 3rd child and it looks like they have been getting more serious on the topic as of lately.
Rumors have circulated about Kim and Kanye looking for a suitable surrogate, which is a woman who agrees to carry a baby on behalf of other parents. Don’t worry though! Because of a process known as In Vitro, the baby will still be part of the West family by blood (if that matters). In Vitro involves an already fertilized egg being implanted in a woman’s uterus, which means the person carrying the baby can have a completely different genetic makeup than the baby they birth. The egg would be supplied by Kim and of course the sperm from Kanye, so this would in every way be their child.
In Vitro is just a safer option for the family after the complications with baby Saint’s birth. Kim developed placenta accreta, which is an illness where the placenta remains attached to the uterus or attaches itself to another organ.
The placenta is a flattened circular organ lightly attached inside a pregnant uterus that allows for the fetus to be nourished through the umbilical cord. Typically, it falls out after the baby is born and some people even eat the placenta as part of cultural customs…I know gross! But in Kim’s case her placenta attached to her wall had to be forcibly detached by a doctor, which can be extremely painful and even life-threatening.
Aside from saving her life, using a surrogate seems to have a lot of benefits for Kim. Pregnancy puts a lot on hold: no drinking, no smoking, and no sushi…what is life at that point? It’s even hard to stand or walk later on, so keeping from having to carry a baby for 9 months is for sure a plus. Hopefully things work out for the couple and the San Diego based surrogate mom.
